Amelia Smith
Clarinet Faculty
Originally from a small suburb outside of Minneapolis, Amelia holds degrees from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University (BM), the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music at the University of Memphis (MM), and the University of Minnesota Twin Cities (DMA). Her former instructors include Alexander Fiterstein, Howard Klug, Dr. Robyn Jones, and Timothy Zavadil. In 2016, she was invited to perform the Mozart Clarinet Concerto with the Sinfonietta Orchestra of Memphis. She has performed with several symphony orchestras including Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra, Memphis Symphony Orchestra, and Santa Monica Symphony.
Amelia has placed in several different competitions and was awarded first prize in the graduate division of the Schubert Club Scholarship Competition. Amelia is also a very passionate and dedicated educator, having taught private and group clarinet lessons for over a decade. She recently held a brief position serving as interim clarinet faculty at the University of Mississippi and is currently in her fifth year teaching (virtually 2021-22) at the Anoka Ramsey Community College in Minnesota.
Dr. Smith has relocated to Los Angeles where she has maintained her private studio from MN, gained a full teaching studio at the Santa Monica Conservatory of Music, and is proud to be working as a Clarinet Teaching Artist with the Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles (YOLA).
